To Ladakh on Bike [Part 2]

Delhi was unbearably hot at that time of year. Perhaps, it was the reason why we had decided not to spend the night there. After freshening up and having lunch at a hotel we left Delhi in the afternoon. The heat in Delhi was intolerable, even for us who are used to the hot and humid summers of Mumbai. The traffic pattern and road discipline (or the lack of it) in Delhi was also new to us. It took us a long time to get out of this massive metro. Once we were out of Delhi and its terrible traffic, the heat reduced a little, or so we thought. The rest of the journey was fast, thanks to the wonderful highway that connects Delhi and Chandigarh.

We reached Chandigarh by night. As there was a chance that we would not be able to or will not, out of choice, follow any particular schedule, we had not booked hotels anywhere except Keylong, Sarchu and Leh, where we were told that at this time of year it can become impossible to find a suitable accommodation. So, we checked in at the first hotel that we found in Chandigarh. As we crashed in our beds that night, we realized for the first time what arduous task we had gotten ourselves in. Despite of all our training and workout, our bodies were a little sore from the journey by rail as well as road. We slept well that night.
